Slope stabilization of the Muara Laboh Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) Project

Slope stabilization and surface protection are needed to prevent landslides and slope erosion on the Wellpad E. Muara Laboh Access Road. An effective solution is needed, starting from the design, construction stage, and price, to prevent landslides and slope erosion in an area of 980 m2. Considering the relatively high slopes, Maccaferri Indonesia proposes to combine several solutions to prevent the possibility of landslides and slope erosion from occurring. The combination of the Terramesh® system combined with Geogrid from Maccaferri, called Paramesh, and the erosion control system with Macmat® HS were chosen as the solution.


Landslide and slope erosion occurred on the cut slope at Wellpad E. Muara Laboh Access Road. Modification of the natural drainage system due to road construction and infiltration of rainwater into the ground is indicated as the cause of landslides in the area. Slope stabilization and surface protection are required to prevent further problems along the access road. The owner expects that the solution must be effective in terms of design, construction stage, and price. The total area is approximately 980 m2, with a length of 28 m2 and a slope height of 35 m.
In order to reduce the slope surface and prevent the possibility of further landslides, several solutions were combined due to the slope elevation conditions. At the bottom of the slope, an MSE Wall with Paramesh System was selected to support the slope cut above the MSE Wall. The Paramesh system consists of the Terramesh® System as secondary reinforcement (facing), MacGrid WG15 (Geogrid) as main reinforcement, and MacTex N as a separator and filter between soil and embankment rock. The upper slope is covered by an erosion control system with MacMat® HS and vegetation. MacMat® HS is used as a starting material for slope surface protection and as a long-term surface erosion mitigation material when combined with vegetation. MacMat® HS is then combined with soil nailing to stabilize the slope.
