Coordinating Minister Airlangga: Energy Transition Becomes a New Source of Economic Growth

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the energy transition toward the 2060 Net Zero Emission (NZE) target is not aimed solely at curbing emissions but also serves as a new source of economic growth through investment and industrialization."Economic growth in the first semester reached 5.45 percent. Compared to other ASEAN or G20 nations, Indonesia ranks among the top three. We have managed to achieve high growth alongside low inflation," Airlangga said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, the government continues to drive an energy transition that aligns with efforts to strengthen national energy security and create new economic opportunities. Energy security serves as a cornerstone for maintaining economic stability amidst global dynamics. The government is diversifying energy sources and reducing import dependency—measures that include increasing the utilization of domestic energy and implementing the B50 biodiesel program. The policy is considered instrumental in maintaining energy price stability and curbing inflationary pressures.

Meanwhile, investment and industrialization continue to drive economic growth. Data from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) indicates that investment grew by approximately 7.2 percent in the first half of 2026, particularly within the manufacturing sector and its supply chains. Rising demand for electricity and gas, alongside the expansion of the digital sector—including data centers—also reflects sustained investment activity. The government is further promoting the development of renewable energy and the expansion of domestic solar panel production capacity to meet the industry's green energy needs.
