Manufacturing Industry Grows 5.32%, Becoming Motor of National Economy

The non-oil and gas manufacturing industry recorded year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 5.32% in the second quarter of 2026. This growth rate surpassed the national economic growth of 5.29% during the same period, underscoring the manufacturing sector's position as a key driver of Indonesia's economy.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that this achievement demonstrates the tangible impact of government policies that prioritize the industrial sector. "This achievement shows that the President's policies, which strongly favor the industrial sector, have yielded concrete results. Manufacturing is not only growing, but its growth rate has also surpassed that of the national economy. This serves as a vital foundation for further expanding the industry's role as an economic engine," said Agus Gumiwang, as quoted by the Ministry of Industry's website on Saturday (August 15, 2026).

In addition to outpacing national economic growth, the manufacturing industry contributed 18.50% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This figure ensures that the manufacturing industry remains the largest contributor to Indonesia's economic structure. The sector also served as the primary source of economic growth, contributing 0.90 percentage points to the total growth figure. According to Agus, this situation reinforces manufacturing's position as the backbone of the national economy. Consequently, the government continues to promote industrialization to foster high-quality economic growth, create jobs, and increase domestic value-added.
