Batam's Fish Exports to Singapore Reached Rp125 Billion through May

Fishery commodity exports from Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri), to Singapore reached 3,678 tons valued at IDR 125 billion between January and May 2026, representing approximately 45 percent of this year's export value target. Batam City Fisheries Agency Head Yudi Admajianto stated that the government aims for Batam's fish exports to reach 7,000 tons in 2026, with a transaction value of around IDR 280 billion. "The data we received up to May shows a volume of 3,678 tons with an export value of IDR 125 billion. Compared to the target value of IDR 280 billion, that is about 45 percent," Yudi said when contacted in Batam on Wednesday.

In terms of volume, the realized figure has reached approximately 53 percent of the 7,000-ton target. "This export data is based on records from the Indonesian Quarantine Agency, and Batam's fish commodities are shipped to Singapore via several ports, including Belakang Padang, Tanjung Riau, and Sagulung," he said. The exported commodities consist of various high-economic-value fish and fishery products, such as grouper, snapper, Spanish mackerel, sweetlips, rabbitfish, vannamei shrimp, cuttlefish, crabs (including blue swimming crabs), and lobsters. "The entire export destination for Batam City's fish commodities is Singapore," he stated.

According to Yudi, the commodities largely originate from the catches of traditional fishermen in the waters surrounding Batam, including the Belakangpadang, Bulang, and Galang areas. The characteristics of Batam’s waters—dominated by shallow seas and coral reef areas—influence the types of fish that serve as key commodities. “Batam’s waters are generally shallow and feature coral reefs. The fish include reef species, snapper, grouper, sweetlips, rabbitfish, and others,” he said. Yudi is optimistic that the export target through the end of 2026 can be met, given that realized exports by May have already exceeded half of the volume target. “We are optimistic about hitting the target by year-end. Hopefully, there will be no obstacles, whether related to weather or operations,” he stated.
For comparison, Batam’s fishery commodity exports in 2025 reached 6,406 tons, valued at Rp263 billion. This achievement surpassed the export value target of Rp250 billion. “Last year, both export volume and value exceeded the targets. We are aiming for an increase in 2026, taking into account the fishing gear and boat engine assistance provided by the agency to fishermen, which is expected to boost productivity,” he said.
