Indonesia and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Cooperation in Investment Promotion and Facilitation

The governments of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have strengthened their cooperation in investment promotion and facilitation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation and Promotion of Direct Investment. Minister of Investment and Downstream Development/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, stated that the MoU is a strategic step to elevate relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia through investment cooperation.

According to Rosan, in an official statement received and confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have a close relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and people-to-people ties that have existed for decades. This relationship is now being expanded through increased investment cooperation, which is expected to provide economic benefits for both countries. From 2021 to the first semester of 2026, Saudi Arabia's realized Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Indonesia reached a total of US$126.2 million.

Rosan stated that the changing global economic landscape is encouraging countries to build stronger partnerships, given that investors today are not only considering competitive costs but also seeking stability, certainty, and long-term investment opportunities. "Saudi Arabia is implementing the Vision 2030 agenda, while Indonesia continues to accelerate industrialization, downstreaming, infrastructure development, and economic transformation. This shared development direction opens up enormous opportunities for collaboration for both countries," he said. Through the MoU, signed on August 4, 2026, with the Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Fahad bin Abduljalil Al-Saif, the two countries agreed to strengthen direct investment cooperation through the exchange of statistical information, business and investment opportunities, as well as regulations and the investment climate.

Furthermore, the collaboration includes consultations with the private sector, joint promotional activities, and the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and expert visits. The collaboration also serves as a platform to strengthen institutional coordination between the investment authorities of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Rosan emphasized that the success of the MoU is not measured by the signing process, but by its actual implementation, which is able to generate new investment, expand business partnerships, create jobs, and provide benefits to the people of both countries. He also emphasized the Indonesian government's commitment to continuing to create a conducive investment climate through various policy reforms. "Indonesia is open to investment. Indonesia is committed to reform. We welcome investments that can create added value, encourage knowledge transfer, develop industry, and bring shared prosperity," said Rosan.
