Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry is intensifying efforts to strengthen the downstream processing of tropical fruits by encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop higher-value food products for international markets. The government aims to transform Indonesia’s abundant tropical fruit resources, including bananas, mangoes, pineapples, and mangosteens, into competitive processed products with stronger export potential. Officials highlighted that expanding fruit processing industries will improve economic value, support food security, create jobs, and strengthen the national manufacturing sector.
The ministry is also providing technical assistance, financing access, packaging improvements, and international food safety certification support to help SMEs compete globally. Indonesia recorded positive export growth in several fruit commodities, with banana exports reaching USD 10.52 million in 2024, up 10.1% from the previous year, while pineapple exports reached USD 316.1 million. Through modernization and product diversification, the government expects Indonesian processed tropical fruit products to gain stronger positions in global markets.
