Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry is strengthening cross-sector collaboration to advance sustainable tourism while supporting the country’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 climate target. Officials emphasized that tourism activities can continue to grow without compromising environmental preservation, as long as they are supported by integrated management, coordinated infrastructure, and responsible environmental practices. The initiative highlights the importance of balancing economic opportunities from tourism with long-term sustainability goals.
The government also pointed to successful conservation-based tourism models abroad and encouraged stronger cooperation between ministries to improve accessibility and infrastructure in protected areas. National parks such as Way Kambas and Komodo are expected to become examples of tourism destinations that generate economic value while maintaining environmental quality. Through stronger coordination and public participation, Indonesia aims to position sustainable tourism as a key contributor to both economic growth and climate action.
