Indonesia is reinforcing its national biosecurity system through stronger coordination between government agencies to prevent invasive pests and illegal wildlife trade. The Ministry of Forestry and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at improving monitoring systems, strengthening enforcement, and enhancing protection of Indonesia’s biodiversity and natural resources.
The collaboration will focus on tighter supervision at ports and airports, data-sharing initiatives, and joint operational programs in areas vulnerable to wildlife trafficking and invasive species. Officials stated that the initiative represents an important step toward building a more effective and collaborative environmental protection system while supporting ecosystem sustainability across Indonesia.
