President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that downstream industrialization is a key strategy to strengthen Indonesia’s economy and achieve energy self-sufficiency. The government has launched 13 Phase II downstream projects with a total investment of around IDR 116 trillion (USD 6.7 billion), covering sectors such as energy, mining, and agriculture. These initiatives aim to increase domestic processing capacity, allowing Indonesia to capture more value from its natural resources and reduce dependence on foreign markets.
The projects include refinery development, coal-to-dimethyl ether facilities, and other integrated industrial efforts that are expected to significantly reduce fuel imports and support national supply chains. The program is also projected to generate approximately 600,000 jobs, highlighting its potential to drive inclusive economic growth. By strengthening control over the production chain from upstream to downstream, Indonesia is positioning itself for greater economic sovereignty and long-term resilience.
