Indonesia is accelerating the implementation of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA) to diversify its export markets amid rising global protectionism. The initiative was highlighted during the 7th Indonesia–Russia Working Group on Trade, Investment, and Industry meeting in Jakarta, where both countries emphasized the strong untapped potential for expanding mutually beneficial economic cooperation and supporting sustainable growth.
The partnership is expected to enhance collaboration across key sectors such as trade, industry, investment, and food security, while also leveraging strategic developments like halal industry expansion and improved logistics connectivity between Surabaya and Vladivostok. With over 90% tariff liberalization under the agreement and bilateral trade nearing USD 5 billion in 2025, the FTA presents a valuable opportunity to unlock broader market access and strengthen long-term economic ties between Indonesia and Eurasian partners.
