Indonesia has removed import duties on aircraft spare parts, reducing tariffs to 0%, as part of a strategic effort to strengthen its aviation sector amid rising global operating costs. The policy is designed to lower maintenance expenses for airlines while enhancing overall industry efficiency. It also reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining a resilient aviation ecosystem and supporting sustainable growth.
The initiative is expected to stimulate economic activity and attract investment, particularly in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector, while creating new job opportunities. Previously, import duties contributed around IDR 500 billion annually, but the policy shift prioritizes broader industry expansion. Alongside adjustments such as a 38% fuel surcharge increase, the government aims to balance airline sustainability with consumer affordability, ensuring long-term sector stability.
