Indonesia is reinforcing its ambition to become a global food powerhouse as national reserves show remarkable growth. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized that the country is entering a pivotal phase, supported by strong fundamentals in food, water, energy, and protein sectors. This momentum reflects a unified national effort to achieve long-term self-sufficiency and elevate Indonesia’s role in global food security.
National rice reserves have surged significantly, reaching around 4.5 million tons—approximately a 200% increase compared to previous levels—with projections to climb to 5–6 million tons in the near term. Regional production has also expanded rapidly, more than doubling in key areas such as South Sulawesi. This progress is complemented by rising agricultural exports, reduced reliance on imports, and improved farmer welfare, marking a promising “golden era” for Indonesia’s agricultural sector.
