Indonesia is preparing to tighten exports of coal and crude palm oil to ensure sufficient domestic supply and strengthen national energy security. President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that producers and distributors must prioritize fulfilling domestic demand before exporting these strategic commodities, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring that Indonesia’s natural resources deliver maximum benefit to its people.
The government plans to enforce the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) policy more strictly, allowing exports only after domestic needs are met. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that companies failing to meet domestic supply commitments could have their export permits withheld. A ministerial regulation is also being prepared to formalize the policy, reinforcing Indonesia’s efforts to enhance energy resilience and sustainable resource management.
