North Maluku recorded a positive performance in international trade at the beginning of 2026, with export and import activities increasing by 8.40% compared to the same period in the previous year. The export value reached approximately USD 1,167.08 million in January 2026, rising from about USD 1,076.64 million in January 2025, reflecting strong demand for the province’s key industrial commodities.
The growth was mainly supported by higher exports of nickel and inorganic chemical products, while iron and steel remained among the dominant commodities contributing to the region’s export structure. These leading commodities collectively accounted for almost the entire export value, demonstrating the region’s strong role in supporting Indonesia’s mineral-based export industry and global supply chains.
