Indonesia is strengthening its halal industry strategy by focusing on the development of border regions, which are considered strategic gateways for expanding halal products to international markets. The government, through the Halal Product Assurance Agency, recognizes that border areas serve not only local consumers but also cross-border markets, making them key locations to showcase Indonesia’s halal product competitiveness.
To support this initiative, the agency plans to enhance halal assurance infrastructure and establish a local technical executive unit in West Kalimantan, a province bordering Malaysia’s Sarawak state. The presence of this regional unit is expected to improve facilitation, guidance, and mentoring programs for business actors while strengthening collaboration with regional governments, certification institutions, universities, and other stakeholders to foster an inclusive and sustainable halal ecosystem.
