The Deputy Minister of Trade has encouraged small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Batam to seize broader opportunities within the ASEAN regional market. During a strategic visit to the region, the Ministry highlighted Batam's geographical advantage as a vital hub for international trade and cross-border cooperation. The government is committed to providing comprehensive support, including export training and business matching initiatives, to enhance the competitiveness of local products. By leveraging existing trade agreements, Batam’s entrepreneurs are expected to play a more significant role in strengthening Indonesia’s non-oil and gas export performance.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of product standardisation and digital transformation for SMEs to meet the rigorous demands of global consumers. Collaborative efforts between the central government and local authorities are being intensified to simplify export regulations and provide easier access to trade financing. These initiatives are designed to foster a resilient business ecosystem where local brands can successfully scale their operations beyond domestic borders. Moving forward, the government aims to position Batam as a primary gateway for Indonesian SME products to dominate the Southeast Asian economic landscape.
