Indonesia’s Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has introduced stricter supervision for imported fish products to ensure stronger food safety standards. Under Government Regulation No. 1 of 2026 on Food Safety, foreign companies supplying fresh fish products to Indonesia must now obtain an official registration number before conducting trade activities in the country. The policy aims to guarantee that imported seafood complies with sanitation, hygiene, and safety standards to protect consumers.
The registration process involves comprehensive quality inspections, laboratory testing, and a pre-border inspection mechanism conducted by KKP quality inspectors. Several partner countries are already included in the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) system, including Vietnam, China, South Korea, Norway, Canada, Russia, and Saudi Arabia. Despite tighter import supervision, Indonesia continues to maintain its position as a major global net exporter of fishery products, with exports reaching over USD 4 billion from January to September 2025, significantly exceeding import levels.
