Riau Province recorded a significant trade surplus of USD 1.22 billion in January 2026, primarily driven by a robust performance in the non-oil and gas sector. Total export value for the period reached USD 1.85 billion, marking a substantial 23.16 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. China has established itself as the top export destination, followed closely by India and Pakistan, with their collective contribution accounting for over 33 percent of the region's non-oil shipments. This growth is largely supported by the processing industry, particularly in the animal and vegetable fats category, which saw a remarkable surge of more than 75 percent.
While exports showed healthy growth, Riau's import value also experienced a sharp spike, soaring to USD 629.07 billion due to the procurement of capital goods. The importation of aircraft and related components emerged as the largest contributor to this increase, with France serving as the primary supplier for these industrial assets. Despite the surge in imports, the manufacturing sector's export output remained strong, reflecting the region's increasing integration into the global supply chain. Moving forward, the provincial government aims to maintain this trade momentum by fostering strategic partnerships and enhancing the competitiveness of local industrial products in international markets.
