Batam’s Fishery Exports Surge as Vaname Shrimp Dominates the Singaporean Market

The fishery export performance in Batam continues to show a positive trend, with Vaname shrimp emerging as the primary driver of growth. According to the Batam Fishery Department, the production of Vaname shrimp reached 3,664 tons in 2025, significantly contributing to the region's aquaculture exports. This high production level is a direct response to robust international demand, particularly from Singapore, which remains a key strategic market. Despite minor production fluctuations at the beginning of 2026, the sector maintains its status as a vital backbone for the local maritime economy.

In 2025, Batam successfully exported a total of 6,406 tons of fish commodities to Singapore, with a total value reaching IDR 263.5 billion. While Vaname shrimp dominates the export volume, other commodities such as grouper, snapper, and pomfret also contribute regularly to the international trade figures. The government is currently focusing its support programs on small-scale fish farmers to enhance their productivity and quality standards. Through consistent oversight and strategic market positioning, Batam aims to ensure a stable supply chain that satisfies both domestic needs and global export requirements.
