The Vice Governor of Papua has officially inaugurated the first-ever export of 17.8 tons of processed tuna products destined for the United States. This inaugural shipment marks a major milestone for the region’s maritime sector, showcasing Papua's capacity to move beyond raw material exports toward high-value processed goods. The move is expected to significantly boost the local economy and open new international trade corridors for Papua's abundant marine resources, specifically targeting the high-demand North American market.
This achievement highlights the growing industrial readiness of Papua in meeting the strict quality and food safety standards required for global distribution. By focusing on downstream processing, the region is able to retain more economic value domestically and create more specialized jobs for the local workforce. This strategic export push not only strengthens Papua’s position within the global seafood supply chain but also serves as a catalyst for future investments in modernizing the province’s fishery infrastructure and sustainable industrial practices.
