Nickel Industry Drives Maluku Utara's Economic Growth to 34.17 Percent in 2025

North Maluku Province recorded a brilliant achievement with cumulative economic growth reaching 34.17% throughout 2025, making it one of the regions with the highest growth in Indonesia. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that the nickel processing industry was the main driving force, supported by increased production of processed commodities and the continued construction of various strategic smelter facilities. Furthermore, 2025 also marked the birth of a new downstream product, namely nickel plates, which further deepened the industrial structure in the region. This achievement was strengthened by a sharp increase in export value of 39.19% annually, demonstrating the strong competitiveness of local nickel products in the global market, especially in China.

For association members and mining players, this positive performance was supported by foreign investment (PMA) realizations reaching US$1.7 billion or approximately IDR 28.9 trillion in the nickel processing sector. The processing industry sector provided the largest contribution to growth with a 19.10% share, far surpassing the mining sector at 7.33%. This momentum was also driven by the import of sophisticated machinery and equipment to accelerate international-standard smelter operations. With a solid foundation in the nickel resource-based industry, North Maluku is optimistic about maintaining regional economic sustainability in 2026. Synergy between investment policies and production efficiency is expected to continue bringing positive impacts on community welfare and the advancement of the national nickel industry.
