Palm Oil Production Boosts East Sulawesi's Economic Growth to 5.36 Percent

The economic growth of West Sulawesi Province throughout 2025 reached 5.36 percent, exceeding the previous year's achievement of 4.76 percent. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that the surge in palm oil production was the primary factor driving the performance of the agricultural and processing industry sectors in the region. The increase in Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) volume directly strengthened the industrial subsector's contribution to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) through Crude Palm Oil (CPO) processing plant activities. This success reaffirms that the plantation sector remains the backbone of the regional economy, capable of maintaining positive growth momentum throughout the year.

For association members and business players, this strengthening trend highlights the importance of synergy between plantation land optimization and the acceleration of industrial downstreaming at the local level. In addition to palm oil, increased production in rice and essential oil commodities also provided additional contributions to West Sulawesi's economic stability amidst market dynamics. The focus on developing flagship commodities is considered successful in strengthening the regional economic structure and creating jobs in the upstream to downstream sectors. With supportive climate conditions and the expansion of processing industry capacity, West Sulawesi is optimistic about maintaining solid economic performance to face challenges in 2026.
