The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a robust national chip ecosystem, a strategic initiative that has been consistently developed since 2023. This effort is aimed at positioning Indonesia as a significant player in the global semiconductor supply chain by fostering domestic "chip design" capabilities. During a recent meeting with the Indonesia Chip Design Collaborative Center (ICDeC), Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that the development of this sector is now a cross-ministerial priority, integrated into the national development planning to ensure long-term industrial resilience and technological independence.
The ministry's comprehensive strategy is outlined in the Roadmap for Indonesia’s Semiconductor Ecosystem Development, which prioritizes chip design, talent cultivation, and sustainable collaboration between the government, academia, and the private sector. To support these goals, the Ministry of Industry has prepared physical infrastructure specifically for chip design development and continues to facilitate global partnerships to attract high-value investment. By strengthening these foundations, the government aims to bridge the gap between local industrial needs and global semiconductor standards, ultimately driving innovation and increasing the added value of the nation’s manufacturing sector.
