The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) is bolstering its commitment to Indonesia’s manufacturing industry by featuring a robust Japan Pavilion—comprising 17 Japanese companies—at the 2025 Manufacturing Indonesia exhibition. Director General of JETRO Jakarta, Shinji Hirai, explained that this initiative is vital to supporting Indonesia's national goal of increasing the manufacturing sector's contribution to its GDP to 28% by the nation's centenary of independence (up from 18.3% in 2022).
JETRO's strategy is two-fold: supporting enhanced product quality in Indonesia's manufacturing sector and increasing the local procurement rate for both Japanese and non-Japanese producers. This requires capital investment, specifically the introduction of advanced Japanese technology and manufacturing machinery. A key competitive advantage highlighted by Japanese firms is their comprehensive support model, which extends beyond product quality to include after-sales services, maintenance, design, construction, and product material consultation, thereby fostering a stronger and more efficient manufacturing ecosystem in Indonesia.
