Indonesia continues to experience significant automotive component imports, totaling USD 8.26 billion from January to September 2025, with a surge of over 20% compared to the previous year. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that leveraging domestic opportunities, particularly through Small and Medium Industries (SMIs), can reduce reliance on imports, enhance manufacturing depth, and create added value for the national economy.
The government’s Link and Match 2025 program connects SMIs with large industry suppliers and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to foster sustainable domestic automotive production. Since 2017, collaborations under this initiative have produced over 131 Memorandums of Understanding between OEM Tier 1 companies and 107 SMIs. By strengthening partnerships, improving technology transfer, workforce capabilities, and quality management, the program aims to boost local content levels, reduce import dependence, and expand market access for Indonesian SMIs.
