Indonesia has restarted shrimp exports to the United States after securing certification confirming the products are free from Cesium-137 contamination. The latest shipment totaled 182 tons, valued at approximately IDR 25 billion. Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Wahyu Sakti Trenggono highlighted that this step reflects renewed trust from the American market and praised the KKP Quality Assurance Agency for achieving compliance with US technical standards.
This marks the second shipment after Indonesian shrimp met international radiation safety standards through coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten). The Quality Assurance Agency, certified by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), ensures that only products passing quality and radiation tests are exported. Officials expressed optimism that such rigorous certification will strengthen global competitiveness for Indonesia’s fisheries products, supporting both public safety and sustainable industry growth.
