The Gorontalo Provincial Government is strengthening its focus on agriculture and livestock as priority sectors. Governor Gusnar Ismail signed an MoU in Surabaya on 2 December 2025 with six corn-exporting companies under PEJAGINDO: PT Seger Agro Nusantara, PT Agro Utama Indonesia, PT Sinar Pangan Abadi, PT Santosa Utama Lestari, PT Gorontalo Pangan Lestari, and PT Subur Mega Perkasa. The partnership aims to support cattle development and fattening programs by leveraging the companies’ capital strength and corn supply, hoping to boost both production and competitiveness of Gorontalo cattle in markets across Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan.
Governor Gusnar emphasized that the cooperation opens a new business line for corn exporters, shifting from simply selling corn to supporting livestock growth. Gorontalo currently has 164,789 cattle and produces 2,198 tons of beef, exceeding local needs by 541 tons. PEJAGINDO Chairman Tani Harmoko welcomed the initiative, urging companies to involve local farmers so that cattle fattening enhances—rather than disrupts—the existing corn trade. With this collaboration, Gorontalo hopes to strengthen its image not only as a major corn producer but also as a rising national center for quality beef cattle.
