Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso has outlined a gradual export growth roadmap, targeting a national export expansion of 9.6% by 2029. For 2025, the government aims for 7.1% growth, with current performance already reaching 6.96%. Budi emphasized that sustained export acceleration is essential to support the country’s broader goal of achieving 8% economic growth. To strengthen this momentum, the Ministry of Trade is intensifying cross-ministerial collaboration—particularly with the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs—to enhance product quality, competitiveness, and market access for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
Through the flagship “UMKM BISA Ekspor” program, the ministry facilitated 1,049 MSMEs from January to October 2025, with 70% being first-time exporters and generating transactions worth USD130.17 million. The program focuses on innovation, market readiness, and expanding aggregator roles. Budi highlighted that MSME products entering modern retail channels already meet export-level standards, offering dual benefits: stronger domestic consumption of local goods and broader global market penetration. Enhanced product quality, improved supply chain partnerships, and aligned policies between ministries are central to helping MSMEs scale up while countering disruptions from unregistered or secondhand imports.
