Malang Regency Intensifies Cluster Strategy to Elevate Aquaculture Productivity

The Malang Regency Government, through its Fisheries Department, is aggressively implementing a regional or cluster-based management model to significantly increase aquaculture production. This strategic shift moves away from scattered, individual farming to a consolidated approach, aiming to enhance economic scale and operational efficiency for local fish farmers.

Victor Sembiring, Head of the Malang Regency Fisheries Department, emphasized that adopting a cluster model allows for more streamlined cultivation processes—from seeding to harvest. By concentrating specific commodities in designated zones, the government can better facilitate infrastructure support, technical guidance, and disease management. This approach not only optimizes land use but also strengthens the supply chain, making it easier to meet market demands consistently.

Furthermore, the cluster model is designed to improve the bargaining power of small-scale farmers. By aggregating their output, producers can negotiate better prices and access larger markets that require steady, high-volume supplies. The initiative also aligns with national food security goals, ensuring a reliable source of protein for the community while boosting the local economy through a more robust and modernized aquaculture sector. The administration remains committed to supporting this transition with necessary resources and regulatory frameworks to ensure long-term sustainability.
