Wakatobi Accelerates Fisheries Sector as Key Driver of Maritime Economy

The Regional Government of Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, has reaffirmed its strategic commitment to establishing the marine and fisheries sector as the primary engine of regional economic development. This policy direction was underscored by the Vice Regent of Wakatobi, Safia Wualo, during the recent "Gemarikan" (National Fish Consumption Movement) Talk Show.

Vice Regent Wualo highlighted that maximizing the potential of Wakatobi’s maritime resources is not merely an economic imperative but a crucial step toward broader national development goals. She emphasized that a robust fisheries sector is essential for supporting the vision of Indonesia's "Golden Generation 2045" (Generasi Emas 2045). By integrating sustainable fishery management with efforts to increase local fish consumption, the administration aims to improve public health outcomes and economic resilience simultaneously.

"We hope that Wakatobi's fisheries sector will continue to grow sustainably. This initiative is designed to strengthen the culture of fish consumption and support the realization of a Golden Generation in Wakatobi," Wualo stated. This strategic focus aligns with broader efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the maritime economy. The administration’s approach ensures that marine resources actively contribute to the prosperity and nutritional well-being of the community, positioning Wakatobi as a key player in the national maritime landscape.
