Taiwan Commits to Strengthening Partnership in Indonesia’s Agricultural Sector

The head of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO), Bruce Hung, affirmed Taiwan’s commitment to deepen cooperation with Indonesia across various sectors — particularly agriculture. At the Taiwan Technical Mission Achievements Showcase held in Jakarta on 27 November 2025, Hung highlighted the long-standing support of the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM), which, since its inception in 1976, has been helping Indonesian farmers improve agricultural practices and product quality. As an example, farmers in Karawang have enhanced their cultivation techniques and are now able to supply more vegetables to other regions such as Jakarta — improvements that have led to significantly higher incomes for those farmers. In North Sumatra, TTM has also collaborated with local farmers to bolster the yield and quality of garlic and red onions.

Looking ahead, Hung announced that Taiwan will launch two new agricultural projects with Indonesia in the coming year, located in Sulawesi Selatan and West Java. These projects will focus on producing corn and vegetable seeds, to reinforce the country’s marketing systems and contribute to national food self-sufficiency efforts. According to Hung, the partnership between Indonesia and Taiwan has also been strengthened socially, as evidenced by the large Indonesian community (around 400,000 people) residing in Taiwan — described as neighbors, colleagues, and family, reflecting warm and genuine people-to-people ties. With this foundation, Taiwan hopes to remain a trusted partner to Indonesia and explore many more collaborative opportunities across sectors.
