The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is strengthening support for small and medium industries (IKM/MSMEs) to enhance their competitiveness and readiness for global markets. This effort was formalized through the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indonesia Eximbank/LPEI, focusing on accelerating the development of export-oriented MSMEs. Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita highlighted that this collaboration is a strategic move to reinforce Indonesia’s export ecosystem, emphasizing the key role of MSMEs as the backbone of the national industry. They contribute significantly to regional production, job creation, and community welfare. Through expanded access to financing, information, and technical guidance, the ministry aims to equip MSMEs with the capabilities needed to scale up and succeed internationally.
The renewed three-year MoU, signed on 24 November 2025, builds on cooperation that began in 2017 and continued in 2022. Indonesia recorded 4.435 million MSME units in 2024—representing 99.79% of all industries—and in the third quarter of 2025, they contributed 21.01% of manufacturing output while employing over 12.8 million workers, or 66.52% of the industrial workforce. The partnership will provide export potential mapping, education on financing and insurance schemes, consultancy services, and technical assistance to help MSMEs meet global standards. These include support for export certification, clean kitchen facilities, and compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices such as CPPOB. Through structured programs aimed at improving product quality, production processes, and market readiness, the government hopes to encourage more MSMEs to penetrate international markets and increase their contribution to national export performance.
