Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka announced a bilateral visa-free policy between Indonesia and South Africa during the Indonesia–Africa CEO Forum held in Johannesburg on 21 November 2025. He stated that citizens of both countries will no longer need visas to travel between them, calling this “good news” for businesspeople and the public alike.
The announcement is the result of a prior bilateral meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Jakarta in October 2025. Gibran also emphasized how the visa-free arrangement will facilitate mobility for entrepreneurs and investors, boosting trade and investment. He witnessed the launch of the Indonesia-South Africa High-Level Business Council (ISA-HLBC), intended to speed up the implementation of priority economic cooperation in sectors such as defense, energy, agriculture, and strategic industries.
