The provincial government of Sumatra Barat (West Sumatra), together with Badan Karantina Indonesia (Indonesian Quarantine Agency, Barantin), has sent off the export of 25 tons of cinnamon bark (Cinnamomum), valued at around IDR 1.3 billion, destined for the United States. This shipment, released in Padang on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, is viewed as tangible proof of progress in the agricultural sector of West Sumatra, according to Barantin head Sahat M Panggabean. Before export, the cinnamon bark underwent health inspections by the regional plant quarantine office to ensure it met safety standards.
Cumulatively, from January through November 2025, the regional quarantine office recorded that agricultural and fishery exports from West Sumatra reached a total value of about IDR 3.2 trillion. The cinnamon bark export is part of a solid export performance over that period. Among the top five agricultural export commodities from the province by volume are palm oil shell (554,000 tons), refined-bleached-deodorized (RBD) palm olein (42,000 tons), rubber sheets (26,000 tons), RBD palm stearin (22,000 tons), and cinnamon bark (5,900 tons). Other exported items — including fishery products like tuna, sea ornamental fish, and dried fish — also contribute significantly to the province’s export portfolio.
