The Governor of Papua, Mathius Fakhiri, officially sent off the export of 10 containers of processed wood — totaling 196.7814 cubic meters — destined for Shanghai, China, marking a sign of growing capacity in the region’s wood processing industry and expanding Papua’s contribution to the global supply chain. According to Fakhiri, this shipment represents the fifth such delivery in 2025. Previous exports included 15 containers (266.3660 m³) on 2 October; five containers (91.9223 m³) on 14 October; seven containers (129.1600 m³) on 31 October; and six containers (115.1893 m³) on 12 November. The wood products come from PT Smarak Dharma Timber, operating under oversight of the provincial government via the forestry and environment authority — ensuring strict compliance with legality and sustainability standards.
Officials state that rising demand opens opportunities to increase export volume. To prevent illegal logging and timber trade, all wood undergoes verified legality checks and multiple layers of inspection before shipment. Meanwhile, PT Smarak Dharma Timber’s director, Fery Tamsil, revealed plans to negotiate a shipping service for direct exports from Jayapura to Shanghai — bypassing transit via Surabaya. If realized next year, all export documentation will be processed in Jayapura, ensuring shipments are recorded as direct exports from Papua.
