Indonesian mining industry holding company, MIND ID, has affirmed its commitment to support Indonesia in winning the competition to form a global electric vehicle (EV) industry ecosystem. Through a progressive mineral downstreaming strategy, MIND ID is ready to be at the forefront of supplying the needs of the EV ecosystem industry to meet the increasing market demand. Dany Amrul Ichdan, Deputy President Director of MIND ID, said that EV is a new market space full of potential. However, Indonesia has a very fundamental strength - natural resource wealth and solid downstreaming capabilities. MIND ID is confident that Indonesia can become a key player in the global EV ecosystem supply chain. "MIND ID together with all Group Members will continue to maximize capacity and open up collaboration space with various parties so that this great potential can truly be utilized as much as possible for the progress of the nation," he said at the Conference entitled Racing Towards Energy Security and Climate Action in a Changing World Order held in Jakarta, Friday (20/6).
He explained that as a real form of downstream commitment, the MIND ID Group consistently realizes strategic projects that produce important mineral raw materials for the EV derivative industry. First, the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR), Mempawah, West Kalimantan has been operating and is capable of producing 1 million tons of alumina per year, which is the basic material for the frame and body of electric vehicles. Second, the Nickel Refining Smelter which is being developed in Pomalaa, Morowali, Sorowako, and East Halmahera, which are the main raw materials for EV batteries. Third, the Copper smelter in Gresik which has a production capacity of 600,000 tons of copper cathode per year, which is an important component in the electrical system in EVs. Fourth, the Coal-to-Graphite pilot project in South Sumatra, which are also the main components of EV batteries. Through the research umbrella of the Indonesia Mining & Minerals Research Institute (IMMRI), MIND ID is committed to continuing to present mineral innovations that are relevant to industry needs.
