Imports to West Java for Consumer Goods Soar by 20.86% During 2024

The value of West Java's imports during the January-December 2024 period was USD 13.07 billion or up 6.23% compared to the same period the previous year. The increase was driven by non-oil and gas imports which rose by 8.03%, while oil and gas imports fell by 3.14%. Head of the West Java Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Darwis Sitorus explained that according to the purpose of use of goods, imported goods for consumer goods experienced the most dominant growth with an increase of 20.86%. Then for auxiliary raw materials also increased, namely 5.95%. "While capital goods fell by 3.23%," he explained in the Official Statistics News (BRS) at BPS Office. Then, the total import volume for the January-December 2024 period also showed an increase of 12.16%, which was caused by an increase in non-oil and gas volume of 24.32% and an increase in oil and gas volume of 3.37%.

Darwis also explained that cumulatively, the largest non-oil and gas imports from West Java from January to December 2024 came from China worth US$3.75 billion, followed by Japan worth USD 1.85 billion, and South Korea worth USD 1.50 billion, with the role of the three reaching 63.70% of the total non-oil and gas imports. Meanwhile, the value of West Java's imports month-to-month in December 2024 reached USD 1.17 billion or increased by 6.75% compared to November 2024. "This was influenced by an increase in non-oil and gas imports of 6.97% and oil and gas imports which increased by 5.29%. When compared to December 2023, there was an increase in import value of 9.28%," he said. Judging from the 10 main categories of goods, the value of West Java's non-oil and gas imports in December 2024 mostly increased compared to November 2024, only three categories experienced a decrease. If seen in more detail, it is known that the largest increase was experienced by the Knitted Fabric Category of USD 17.92 million or an increase of 29.91%, followed by the Artificial Filament Category of USD 13.80 million or an increase of 20.71% and the Plastic and Plastic Goods Category of USD 8.32 million or an increase of 11.23%.
