The Ministry of Trade has noted a trend of rising garlic prices, prompting the government to urge importers to expedite their shipments. Bambang Wisnubroto, Director of Essential Goods, stated in a voice recording received by RRI on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, that garlic prices are currently increasing, and he will instruct the Director General to encourage importers to act swiftly.
Currently, the national retail price for Grade A Kating garlic is IDR 42,400 per kilogram, reflecting a 1.44% increase. Meanwhile, the national retail price for Grade B Honan garlic is IDR 41,200 per kilogram, with a 0.24% increase. Indonesia remains reliant on imports to meet its annual garlic demand, which totals 669,526 tons.
