The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is pushing to enhance fishery export opportunities to 10 African countries, including Angola, Burundi, Ethiopia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, and Tanzania. One of the efforts to achieve this is through international fisheries training for African nations, with 20 participants from the 10 countries attending a session in Nusa Dua, Bali, from 8 to 14 September 2024. Head of the Agency for the Extension and Development of Marine and Fisheries Human Resources, I Nyoman Radiarta, stated that the export products include processed fishery products, equipment, and feed. Radiarta highlighted that Indonesia has been exporting to Africa since the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference, aiming not only to strengthen exports but also to open up investment opportunities and enhance human resources.
During the training, KKP also promoted Indonesia's best practices in aquaculture management, focusing on the blue economy principles applied to tilapia and catfish processing. Radiarta emphasized that this material was requested by African governments. The event also serves as a platform to reinforce cooperation between Indonesia and African nations while exchanging expertise. Participants will visit three locations in Bali, including a tilapia and catfish farming group in Sulahan Village, Bangli, to learn about breeding techniques and maggot-based feed processing. Bali's Provincial Secretary, Dewa Made Indra, noted that participants will gain comprehensive knowledge by connecting theoretical understanding with practical field insights.
