Fransiskus Diaan, the Regent of Kapuas Hulu, has confirmed that kratom (Purik) has been officially regulated for export by the Indonesian Ministry of Trade (Kemendag RI). "Kapuas Hulu is also the largest producer of kratom in Indonesia, so its export is now officially regulated by the central government," Diaan stated to reporters on Wednesday, 4 September 2024. He explained that the recently issued Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag RI) Number 21 of 2024 amends the previous Permendag Number 23 of 2023 concerning Export Policies and Regulations. "Under this regulation, kratom is listed as an export commodity under codes 725, 726, and 727, and the trading regulations for kratom in Kapuas Hulu have been established," he added. This regulation is expected to provide a legal framework for kratom exporters and businesses in West Kalimantan, particularly in Kapuas Hulu. "On behalf of the people of Kapuas Hulu, we thank the Central Government, local government, associations, kratom entrepreneurs, and all parties who have supported this regulation's issuance," Diaan concluded.
