Widhi Asmoro Jati, Acting Head of the Fakfak Plantation Office, announced that Fakfak Regency aims to achieve nutmeg exports by the end of 2024. This initiative is expected to positively impact the local economy and improve the livelihoods of nutmeg farmers. Jati emphasized the challenges of meeting this target, stating, "We are inventorying various obstacles required for export, such as ensuring the quality and standard of nutmeg products for international markets." The preparation involves addressing regulatory support, product standards, and export governance. Fithra Faisal Hastiadi, Senior Economist at Samuel Sekuritas Indonesia, highlighted that Indonesia's neutral stance amid global geopolitical and economic turmoil could attract significant foreign investment. "ASEAN's neutrality in the economic turmoil positions Indonesia, the largest country in ASEAN, as an attractive investment destination," Hastiadi said during the Antara Business Forum 2024 in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday.
He noted that global economic disruptions, exacerbated by the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, have divided the world between pro-Russia and pro-U.S. factions, with China and the U.S. developing opposing stances. This division led to the U.S. shifting its production base from China to other countries like Mexico. In contrast, Indonesia’s neutral position is seen as a unique advantage for attracting investors, especially from China. Hastiadi shared that a recent meeting with Chinese investors in Singapore revealed their intent to bolster China's economy through increased investment in ASEAN, particularly in Indonesia. "Despite the geopolitical conflicts, this represents a significant investment opportunity for Indonesia," he added. The ANTARA Business Forum, organized by Antara ETP, is a dynamic platform designed to facilitate synergy and collaboration among stakeholders, particularly for export-import businesses, crucial for driving national and regional economic growth.
