On August 26, 2024, South Korea's National Fishery Product Quality Management Service (NFQC) conducted an inspection at PT Gabungan Samudera Indonesa (GSI), an Indonesian seafood exporter. The inspection confirmed that Indonesian seafood meets international standards. PT GSI’s Director, Then Herry, stated that the NFQC's assessment affirmed PT GSI's capability to continue exporting seafood to South Korea. “This demonstrates that Indonesian products can compete globally, particularly in the high-standard South Korean market,” Herry noted in an official statement on September 4, 2024.
The NFQC's comprehensive inspection began with a review of essential documents such as certifications, operational permits, and food safety standards compliance. Beyond paperwork, the NFQC evaluated PT GSI’s facilities, including production, storage, cleanliness, and safety, ensuring they meet international standards. Herry emphasized the company's commitment to high-quality production and its readiness to enhance Indonesian seafood exports to South Korea. Despite global economic slowdowns, Indonesia has maintained a surplus in export activities over the past five years, with a total surplus of USD 36.93 billion in 2024. Seafood remains a prominent export commodity, with PT GSI averaging 500 tons or 19 containers per month, targeting markets in Australia and Europe as well as Asia.
