Since 2012, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has been providing facilitation and assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to help them obtain halal certification for their products. Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, Head of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) of DKI Jakarta, stated that the government continues to encourage MSMEs, particularly those involved in the Jakarta Entrepreneur program, to advance by providing various forms of support. She emphasized that all food and beverage MSMEs participating in the Jakarta International Investment, Trade, Tourism, and SME Expo (JITEX) 2024 have been curated and possess halal certification, signifying their progress in the industry.
Deden Edi, Director of the Institute for the Assessment of Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics (LPPOM) of DKI Jakarta, highlighted the importance and mandatory nature of halal certification for food and beverage businesses in Indonesia, as stipulated by Government Regulation Number 39 of 2021. He noted that starting from October 17, 2024, all food and beverage businesses must hold halal certification, which opens up broader market opportunities, both domestically and globally. Deden also outlined five criteria used to assess whether a product is eligible for halal certification, including commitment, raw materials, production processes, product evaluation, and continuous monitoring. Additionally, Sajun, a representative from the DKI Jakarta Health Office, mentioned that home-based food industries, known as Household Industry (PIRT), must have distribution permits before their products can be marketed. Failure to obtain these permits could result in sanctions or product destruction. The DKI Jakarta PPKUKM Department has previously facilitated free halal certification for 5,000 MSMEs in Jakarta through the Jakpreneur program, with costs covered by the provincial government.
