The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Enhances Import Goods Supervision

The Trade Office of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province is intensifying the monitoring of imported goods at various entry points to minimize the influx of illegal goods into the region. Baiq Nelly Yuniarti, Head of the NTB Trade Office, stated in Mataram on Wednesday that this monitoring is being conducted in collaboration with relevant agencies such as Customs, the Quarantine Agency, the Regional Police, and KP3. One of the frequently monitored entry points is Lembar Port in West Lombok, which connects Lombok Island with Surabaya, Bali, and Bima on Sumbawa Island. In addition, various minor entry points are being closely watched with the police to curb illegal imports into West Nusa Tenggara.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the value of NTB's imports in June 2024 was USD 40.37 million, representing a 59.17% decrease from the USD 98.88 million recorded in May 2024. The import activities in June 2024 were primarily from Japan (55.49%), the United States (9.17%), Australia (8.09%), Singapore (6.62%), China (5.58%), and others (15.05%). The largest commodity groups imported were rubber and rubber products (48.26%), machinery and mechanical appliances (35.86%), vehicles and parts (5.42%), and electrical machinery and equipment (4.02%). Previously, the central government announced the formation of a Task Force for Monitoring Specific Goods Subject to Import Regulations, with local government participation. The task force oversees seven types of goods: textiles and textile products, ready-made garments and accessories, ceramics, electronics, footwear, cosmetics, and finished textile goods. The task force was established in response to the closure of several textile industries and complaints from the national business sector about the proliferation of illegal imports sold at unsustainably low prices, failing to meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), leading to layoffs and factory closures. However, Baiq Nelly Yuniarti concluded that the task force has not yet been established in West Nusa Tenggara, so no task force activities have commenced.
