The Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has revealed that the United States remains the dominant export destination for Indonesia's fishery products, despite a recorded decline in exports to the US. Hendra Yusran Siry, the Expert Staff for Ecology and Marine Resources at KKP, noted during a press conference titled 'Performance Achievements of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for the First Semester of 2024 Vol.1' held at the KKP office in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, that overall exports increased by 1% compared to the same period last year. However, while the US remains the largest export destination, the growth in exports to the US has slowed down, resulting in only a 1% aggregate increase.
Hendra further mentioned that other significant export destinations for Indonesian fishery products include China, ASEAN countries, Japan, and the European Union. Among these countries, only China and ASEAN have shown an increase in export volumes. Specifically, exports to China rose by 9%, and exports to ASEAN countries surged by 16.5%. Additionally, exports to the European Union reached USD 193.35 million, reflecting an 18.9% increase. However, exports to Japan experienced a decline, although the total value still amounted to USD 285 million.
