President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has emphasized that the green economy presents significant opportunities for Indonesia, particularly through the development of coconut, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, pepper, and cloves. During the 51st Cocotech Conference in Surabaya, East Java, he stated, "The green economy is a huge opportunity and potential for our country, Indonesia." President Jokowi highlighted that among these commodities, coconut holds substantial potential due to Indonesia's vast land area of 3.8 million hectares and an annual production of 2.8 million tons. This makes Indonesia the second-largest producer of coconuts globally, with North Sulawesi and Riau provinces being the most significant production areas. He noted, "Our exports are not insignificant, amounting to USD 1.55 billion. This is a substantial figure that can be further increased if we take it seriously." President Jokowi urged for serious efforts to develop the coconut commodity to maximize its benefits for the country. He suggested that these efforts could be focused on two main aspects: increasing coconut production and promoting downstream processing to add value. He concluded by inviting the international coconut community to collaborate in advancing a sustainable coconut industry.
