The Marine and Fisheries Quality Control and Supervision Agency (BPPMHKP) of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) reported that the export value of fisheries from Maluku reached IDR 400 billion in the first semester of 2024. This figure, equivalent to USD 25 million, was announced by Hatta Arisandi, Head of BPPMHKP Ambon, on Monday in Ambon. Hatta detailed that the volume of live fish exports from January to June 2024 was 297,920 fish, a notable increase from 177,362 fish during the same period in 2023, representing a rise of 67.97%. Conversely, non-live fish exports during the same period amounted to 4,278,273 kilograms (4,278 tons), down from 6,595,325 kilograms (6,595 tons) in 2023, marking a 35% decline.
Maluku’s fisheries exports for January to June 2024 were shipped to 14 countries, including China, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Canada, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. The top five destinations for Maluku’s fish exports were China, the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. The primary commodities exported were vannamei shrimp, tuna, live grouper, and mangrove crab. To address fluctuations in export volumes, BPPMHKP is enhancing export services and fostering cooperation with related agencies. Efforts to streamline export processes include innovative public service programs such as the Tatihu rapid response team, 24-hour export certification services, and the Virtual Fast Service System (Silapatua), which supports certification for Integrated Quality Management Program (PMMT)/HACCP and Good Fishery Quarantine Practices (CKIB) across all districts and cities in Maluku. These measures aim to facilitate smoother export operations and bolster Maluku’s fisheries industry.
