The Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC) Type Madya Pabean B Teluk Bayur, Padang City, West Sumatra, is actively supporting the efforts to develop markets for local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) abroad. "We are providing export introduction socialization for West Sumatra's SMEs to understand the export process and expand their market," said Yazid Khair, Head of Customs and Excise Services at KPPBC Teluk Bayur, on Monday. He noted that West Sumatra's SME products, especially in agriculture, have great potential for international markets. However, many SMEs have yet to venture into exporting due to a lack of knowledge about the process. "Through this socialization, we hope SME players in West Sumatra will realize that the international market is wide open and be motivated to export their products," he said.
Currently, not many SME products from West Sumatra are exported abroad. Of the total Export Declaration (PEB) documents handled by the KPPBC Teluk Bayur, only 10% come from SMEs. "In terms of documents, we handle between 250 to 400 PEB documents per month, but those from SMEs are only about 10%," he stated. Looking ahead, he hopes more SMEs will export their products internationally, as it would be a missed opportunity not to take advantage of the vast market. Meanwhile, Husnaiti, a participant in the socialization, mentioned that the export process is not overly complicated. Her experience exporting processed chocolate from cocoa shows that as long as the products meet the required standards and conditions, they are accepted by international markets. "For the process, we can consult with KPPBC Teluk Bayur," she said. She also encouraged other SMEs in West Sumatra to seize the opportunities available in international markets.
