Sumedang Regency has the potential to export IAS tilapia to the Netherlands, with plans to develop IAS tilapia in Buahdua and Conggeang sub-districts. The Head of Fisheries at the Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Department of Sumedang Regency, Rudi Hadian, stated that the opportunity to export IAS tilapia to the Netherlands is significant. He added that a company is already prepared to accept IAS tilapia from Sumedang for export to the Netherlands. The procedural details will be handled by the Cooperation Section of the Sumedang Regional Secretariat, highlighting this as an extraordinary opportunity.
The company is ready to collaborate with fish farmers by providing seeds, feed, and purchasing the harvest. Rudi confirmed that Sumedang is well-suited for IAS tilapia development, although it will initially be tested in two sub-districts. Based on previous experiences with new fish species in Sumedang, he is optimistic about the success of IAS tilapia. The biofloc cultivation method ensures that different areas will not face difficulties in developing this fish species. Rudi hopes that cultivating high-economic-value IAS tilapia will increase fish farmers' income and, consequently, their welfare.
