Henry Imanuel Sinuraya, Head of Nanga Badau Customs, reported that export proceeds through the Badau Border Post (PLBN) on the Indonesia-Malaysia border reached IDR 2.188 billion by the second quarter of 2024. "Export activities at PLBN Badau are growing, particularly for freshwater fish from Kapuas Hulu, which are in high demand in Malaysia. This has the potential to boost the economic growth in border areas," Sinuraya told ANTARA in Badau Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, on Monday. Sinuraya explained that the increase in exports in the second quarter was notable in May and June 2024, with a 41.62% rise. Export proceeds in May 2024 were IDR 188.9 million, increasing to IDR 323.5 million in June 2024. According to export notifications recorded at Nanga Badau Customs, export proceeds reached IDR 2.188 billion by June 2024. Sinuraya noted that Nanga Badau Customs, along with other related agencies, continues to promote export commodities in Kapuas Hulu to enhance regional revenue and improve the local economy.
Currently, freshwater fish species like Seladang, Baong, Jelawat, Semah, Betutu, Kelabau, Tengadak, Tapah, and Tengalan are particularly favored in the Malaysian market. Other exported products include handicrafts, plantation products, and natural resources such as honey. Sinuraya mentioned that in the future, PLBN Badau will become an export gateway for arowana fish, presenting a significant opportunity for arowana entrepreneurs in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. Sinuraya expressed hope that the economic activity at the border would enhance business presence and international competitiveness. The ongoing export activities are expected to inspire entrepreneurs to strengthen the nation’s economic resilience. "We are committed to fully supporting MSMEs in Kapuas Hulu Regency to increase their export activities, aiming to improve the economic competitiveness of the local community," said Sinuraya.
